At a Buckhead men’s shop, Kris Shelby is busy teaching his celebrity clients how to cultivate their style. Here, he shares a few pointers.
If you’re looking for class and style—or maybe a class on style—you’ll want to know Kris Shelby. Shelby is a budding celebrity stylist and manager of the suave Attom Concept Store, a concept originally out of Switzerland, which has taken root in The Shops Buckhead Atlanta. Shelby’s work has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and his clientele includes rapper Young Jeezy, an extensive list of NBA players and red-carpet regulars—and continues to grow. Men’s Book Atlanta had a chance to catch up with Shelby to take a peak inside his closet and get the scoop on some great style tips.
How did you get into styling?
I’ve always been a fan of fashion, especially on the high-end side. At a young age, I started saving my money and investing in staple pieces. I mean, I was wearing Prada and Gucci at 15.
What should men know about cultivating great personal style?
I think the key to style is confidence. You can’t be afraid to be different or take chances. A lot of guys are afraid to try new things, but taking chances can help you tap into a different element of yourself you didn’t know existed. Don’t be afraid; try it.
What are your favorite brands in your closet?
Right now I’m really loving my Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Vince, Theory, Ermenegildo Zegna, Tom Ford, Zara and Topman. Canali is my favorite for suits.
Any tips you want to share?
You don’t always have to shop high-end. It’s okay to invest in a couple high-end staple pieces and mix in some lower-price-point pieces from Zara, etc.
