The Celebration of Hula at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center was yet again a tribute to hula’s long and rich history.
THE PARTY Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s annual summer fete, the Celebration of Hula, was packed with a swirling ensemble of chefs and wine purveyors to make for an outstanding evening. THE GUESTS In true Maui Calls tradition, a fragrant rain of plumerias from the sky summoned the festivities. Beaming guests like Maui Brewing Co. founder Garrett Marrero and wife Melissa grazed on delectable bites from Humble Market Kitchin chef Charles Andres and Cane and Canoe chef Robert Barrera while sipping on MauiWine’s latest 2017 viognier. THE HIGHLIGHTS Merrie Monarch winner Hālau Nā Lei Kaumaka O Uka with Kumu Hula Napua Greig, along with Hālau O Ka Hanu Lehua with Kumu Hula Kamaka Kukona, glowed up the stage with a mesmerizing performance. After being quenched with sparkling glasses of Hānaiali‘i Wines’ Tiny Bubbles, the guests hit the dance floor for a sizzlin’ summer soiree! -Eliza Escano
