The Shoreline Hotel revealed its very brightly colored 135-room hotel in a Grand Opening Party and celebrated the central theme of the redesign: honoring Hawai‘i’s natural beauty with contemporary flair.
THE PARTY From the mural walls to the quirky topography installations above every bed, the Shoreline Hotel Waikiki’s renovated space, designed by BHDM Design, creates a colorful and unique experience for the millennial-minded traveler. THE SCENE Guests were greeted by the Shoreline’s signature ombre wall—the first of many Instagrammable spots throughout the hotel. The design theme—Nature Meets Neon—was quickly realized in the lobby, where a 26-foot-high wall of custom Monstera leaf art and rattan cage light fixtures (housing colorful paper sculptures of native Hawaiian birds) hang over a display of mod furniture. Attached to the lobby is Heavenly Island Lifestyle, a health-centered cafe that offers island fare made from local organic ingredients. THE HIGHLIGHTS After the kahu blessed the Shoreline and its staff, guests sipped on tropical sangria and posed for photos in front of California-based artist DJ Neff’s sunset-inspired ombre wall. Cauliflower soup, marinated mushrooms, fried shrimp and other pupus were offered next door at Heavenly. Tahitian dancers entertained under the glow of the lobby’s neon lights. A neon night indeed! -Morgan Chamberlain
