The Hope Gala raised spirits for JDRF and those living with
Type 1 diabetes.
THE PARTY It’s called the Hope Gala, and it’s not hard to see why—JDRF Capital Chapter’s annual affair raises funds for the nonprofit’s work to cure Type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune disease that affects 1.25 million people in America. THE PEOPLE The National Building Museum was filled with everyone from the local arm’s executive director, Jaclyn Toll Basse, to national president and CEO Derek Rapp to the Meltzer family to co-chairs Steve and Tamara Pann. They enjoyed dinner and raised their bid cards for packages such as an all-inclusive Grammys experience (this sold twice for $24,000 each) and an 8-week-old goldendoodle. The total hit a new high with the Fund a Cure, raking in almost $1.1 million for research. BEST IN SHOW Total Wine & More was recognized for its longstanding support before the eve ended with a $2 million tally—a toast to the future for those with T1d. -Kristen Schott
